Removable Partial Denture When Removable Partial Denture is preferred
> When more than 2 posterior teeth or 4
anterior teeth are missing
> If the canine and two of it's adjacent teeth are
missing
> When there is no distal abutment tooth
> Presence of multiple edentulous space
> When the adjacent teeth of edentulous space
are tipped, they can not use in fixed
prosthesis
> If periodontally weakened teeth are present
near the edentulous space
> Teeth with short clinical height which are not
suitable for fixed prosthesis
> Insufficient number of abutments
Patients Instruction
Patients need time to adjust new dentures. First time denture users take several weeks to adapt. They often suffer biting their cheeks, tongue. Speech may altered. But with time and following proper instruction patients will adapt to their denture.
> The patient is taught to remove and wear the
prosthesis repeatedly .
> In the presence of undercut the patient is
taught to insert the denture into the undercut
first, then rotate the prosthesis into its final
position .
> The denture should be removed and rinse
after eating .
> The denture should be handled carefully .
Patients should careful enough not to bend
or damage the plastic or clasp when
cleaning .
> Mouth should be cleaned after removing
denture
> Brush the dentures at least daily. Gently
clean the denture by soaking and brushing
with non abrasive denture cleaner or water
to remove food, plaque and other
deposits .
> The patient is advised to avoid nightwear
of the denture. If the patient wears the
denture during sleep , the mucosa does
not have any rest to improve it's blood
supply. This may lead to bone resorption
and mucosal degeneration.
> The denture should be stored in water or
any dilute medicinal solution at night.
> Finger massage and tissue brushing
stimulate the gums and tissues covered by
the denture in order to maintain mucosal
health.
> Avoid bleach contain products , it can
weaken denture and change its colour.
> Schedule regular dental check up.
> See your dentist if you have loose fit.
Loose denture can cause irritation, sores
and infection.
