After RCT, cap is necessary or not!

🔹Importance of Crown/Cap over tooth 🔹
Cap:
It is a cemented extracoronal restoration that covers or veneered the outer surface of the clinical crown.
Function
▪︎ to protect underlying tooth structure
▪︎ restore aesthetics
▪︎ restore function
🔹Necessity of Crown after Rootcanal treatment
In root canal therapy the infected pulp get removed from the tooth. Which is done to save the tooth as well as prevent decay and infection spreading to other teeth.
So after a root canal treatment, the structural integrity of your tooth has been weakened. This is why it’s necessary to have a dental crown placed on the treated tooth (especially posterior tooth) .
Root canal treated tooth are intrinsically ‘dead tooth’ as their source of nourishment (blood vessels) has removed. This makes them brittle and more likely to fracture. Specially posterior teeth undergo more stress and pressure than front teeth. That is why to restore function nd increase treatment longevity of the treated tooth crown or cap is necessary.
